Totalt Jävla Mörker: Totalt jävla mörker

Totalt Jävla Mörker (“Total Fucking Darkness” in Swedish) is a hardcore punk band with black metal influences from the miserable north of Sweden. How the fuck’s that for intro?
What TJM is about is to portray our dark times, writing songs about injustice and all other things that are fucked up on our planet. You know a band has succeeded in this when the listeners reaction is either to go out and set fire to cars or just decide to never get out of bed again.
Damn, this album is awesome in a depressive way!
It baffles me that TJM effortlessly manages to create 1.30 minute songs with sometimes less than three riffs, and yet it sounds so fucking good! Almost every song on this album is more killer than Juha Valjakkala, also due to the fact that TJM has the good taste to not have more than 30 minutes worth of material on this album. Alas, there is not one single filler song on “Totalt jävla mörker”. On the other nut, the number of hit songs equal the number of, umm…well, there are five of them, namely “Kall Värld”, “Psykets Heroin”, “Embryo”, “Ditt Krig” and “Döden, en lönsam affär?”. I won’t bother with translating the song titles, but for those interested, check out the bands website. Anyways, these five tracks alone are worth the album cost.
The production is very good too, while the guitar sound is sometimes a bit thin, this fits the punky riffs and leaves more room fore the magnificent bass, which gets to act as its own instrument for once. The drums sounds great too, though the playing is rather basic in a punk way, it’s obvious that Christian is a pretty hard hitting drummer.
Finally, TJM sports two vocalists, which take turns screaming their fucking lungs out. I have no fucking clue to which one does who, and on “Totalt jävla mörker” the difference is also not as great as on their previous efforts. Anyways, both performances are absolutely ace.
All in all, TJM dickslaps the competition with this release, and I’m seriously looking forward to hearing their next release.
